Very poor effort to manage tee times on a busy day. Was told we couldn’t check in 20 min before a tee time by an apathetic pro shop attendant, then no carts available at reserved tee time. 9 holes took 3.5 hr. Greens were half aerated/half dried out. I get it’s muni golf, but dyker doesn’t even compare favorably to douglaston, van cortlandt, or forest hills with all these issues.
One of the most unique venues, Dyker Beach Gold Course offers amazing views in the heart of Brooklyn. The outdoor has immaculate gardens and fields that are a perfect backdrop for portraits and group shots. With such a large property, there is a ton of beautiful locations. The historic buildings with the iconic brick walls create magical effect on the photos, transporting you to another time. The indoors is also splendidly decorated. The reception room receives ample amounts of natural light. With the tall ceilings, the photos turn out amazing every time. Here are some of our favorite shots:
Date: 01/27/24 Weather: 48°F, Cloudy, Slight breeze, 5-10 mph Tee time: 12:36 PM Started: 12:20 PM Ended: 5:04 PM Duration: 4 hours and 44 minutes Takeaways: [1] Geese droppings were everywhere and were a serious problem on every hole; I had to clean the mess of my shoes every three holes as my shoe traction was compromised. [2] Conditions of the Tee boxes, Fairways and Greens were acceptable. [3] Bunkers were well-maintained with the appropriate sand type. A previous review mentioned that there was no sand in the bunkers, but I think that management had probably remedied this situation. [4] Only hole # 15 had a soggy fairway. [5] Rough was manageable and was similar to Eisenhower Park Blue, not too thick, which helped me keep the same ball for the full round even when deep in the rough or inside the tree line. [6] Greens were challenging with more than a few holes with 2 level tiers but ran true. Downhill putts were really fast. However, due to the residue from the geese droppings, it was necessary to clear a path for long putts on at least 7-9 holes. [7] Cart paths were repaved with asphalt on more than 5 holes with benches in good condition on most holes [8] Well-maintained metal hole signs on all holes were a good touch. [9] The starter was friendly, tenacious, and a very capable fellow. He was able to squeeze me in 10 minutes before my scheduled tee time. [10] Pace of Play was acceptable despite 4 hours and 44 minutes as I was playing with a couple of seniors in my flight. [11] Men's rest rooms were updated and on the same level as hotel rest rooms [12] Overall, paying $49.00 ($44.00 + $5.00 reservation fee) for 18 holes was NOT WORTH IT due to the serious issue with the geese droppings. In addition, charging a $5.00 reservation fee after showing up in person/walk-up was not a fair policy. I think the reservation fee is fair if the tee time was booked online but in my particular case, I was a walk-up so I should not have been charged for a reservation fee as most golf courses including Eisenhower Park and Bethpage State Park do not charge reservation fees for walk-ups. If the geese droppings were minimal, I would recommend playing this track based on the strength of the long Par threes and fours as well as challenging green complexes.
