In the last few years, Silver Lake has raised their rates, and bought the other golf course on Staten Island (Latourette) and taken away the players club membership for discounted greens fees and practice. I may stop playing golf due to this increase. i thought this was the "working man's golf course?" Not worth the money
Played here for the first time today after a couple of years playing the other NYC municipal courses. Well-kept parkland course with easy access through public transport from Manhattan. Greens are in good condition, running true and firm. Not the most challenging layout, but there are a few elevation changes and dog-legs to mix it up. Thoroughly enjoyed the round and will be back.
Wish I could leave 10 stars. Besides the enjoyable play and well-maintained course… My wife was extremely reluctant to play her first round of golf, despite spending months on the driving range learning the swing and reading up on the game, course etiquette, etc. Her reluctance continued all the way up to our arrival to the course. Within 10 minutes of being there, the two starters (Gary and Mike) turned our entire day around which may have also set her on an actual path to really enjoying the game. We explained up front that it was her first round ever, but that we would be mindful of pace-of-play…These guys couldn’t have been more welcoming and it immediately relieved her of that nervousness she had about holding people up or embarrassing herself. We will absolutely be back here for another round, thanks to Gary and Mike.
