Sun City Center Golf Cart Laws (2026)

Sun City Center is a retirement community in Hillsborough County, about 25 miles south of Tampa. All internal community streets are approved for golf cart use under Florida Statute 316.212. The community has designated cart paths along State Road 674 that connect residents to hospitals, shopping centers, and restaurants without needing a car. Golf carts may cross SR 674 at four specific intersections, but they cannot turn onto or travel along SR 674 itself. The community publishes a Golf Cart Drivers Handbook with detailed maps and rules.

• All Sun City Center streets are approved for golf cart use
• Golf carts may cross SR 674 at four intersections only: Valley Forge/Kings Boulevard, SCC Plaza/Trinity Lakes Drive, North Pebble Beach Boulevard/South Pebble Beach Boulevard, and El Rancho/Stoneham Drive
• Golf carts may NOT turn onto or travel along SR 674. Crossings only
• Golf carts may cross US-301 only at the designated cart path between East Del Webb Boulevard and Walmart
• Carts are allowed sunrise to sunset only. Night operation is prohibited, even with lights
• On approved roads, carts may use the car lane but should stay in golf cart lanes when available and ride near the right side otherwise
• All Florida traffic statutes apply: full stops at stop signs and red lights, no passing in no-passing zones, hand or electronic signals for turns, drive with traffic, no sidewalk riding, no illegal U-turns
• Fines exceed $160 for driving on unapproved roads

• SR 674 cart path (south side) - runs eastward from Kings Boulevard to shops fronting US-301
• SR 674 cart path (north side) - runs westward from Del Webb Boulevard-West via Haverford Avenue to HCA Florida South Shore Hospital and the Bealls/Home Depot shopping center
• Four SR 674 crossing points: Valley Forge/Kings Blvd, SCC Plaza/Trinity Lakes Dr, N. Pebble Beach Blvd/S. Pebble Beach Blvd, El Rancho/Stoneham Dr
• US-301 crossing - designated cart path between East Del Webb Blvd and Walmart (cart path only, not a road crossing)
• Upper Creek Drive (north side) and Cortaro Drive (west side) - designated cart path locations

• Download or pick up a copy of the Greater Sun City Center Golf Cart Drivers Handbook. It has maps showing every approved road, cart path, and crossing point
• Night operation is not allowed in Sun City Center, even if your cart has lights. This is stricter than Florida state law, which does allow night driving with proper equipment
• The SR 674 crossings can be busy. Use extra caution at Valley Forge/Kings Boulevard and the Pebble Beach Boulevard crossing, which see the most traffic
• The cart path along SR 674 connects to the hospital, grocery stores, and major shopping. It is one of the most-used routes in the community
• You do not need a license, registration, or insurance for a standard golf cart in Florida, but insurance is worth considering given the volume of cart traffic here
