Cassville, Wisconsin will charge $25 for a golf cart permit under rules taking effect November 1, 2026. The registration lasts while the registrant owns the cart. The village adopted Ordinance 2026-03 on October 6 and published a clerk's notice dated October 15.
Golf Cart Search reviewed the four-page signed ordinance. Its golf cart section limits operation to roads posted at 25 mph or less. It imports the operating restrictions from the ATV/UTV section, but does not import that section's broader route authorization or its conditional Furnace Creek bridge provision on WIS 133.
When does the Cassville golf cart permit rule start?
The signed document's final page gives November 1 as the effective date, matching the October 15 village notice. Adoption on October 6 therefore does not establish an earlier start date for the new rules.
Section 4.115(3)(h) requires village registration and a current village-issued permit or sticker displayed in two clearly visible locations. The $25 registration remains valid for as long as that person owns the cart. The provision does not set an annual renewal charge or make the permit transferable to a buyer.
Do golf carts get the same routes as ATVs?
The ordinance creates separate sections for the two vehicle groups:
| Provision | What the signed text covers |
|---|---|
| 4.11(3), ATV/UTV routes | Village streets and roads, including highways posted at 35 mph or less, subject to the referenced state rules |
| 4.11(3)(c), Furnace Creek bridge | An ATV/UTV crossing on WIS 133, contingent on similar action by the Town of Cassville and Grant County |
| 4.115(3)(e), golf carts | A separate road-speed ceiling of 25 mph |
The golf cart cross-reference points to 4.11(5), the operating restrictions, rather than 4.11(3), the routes. Owners cannot use the ATV bridge language as evidence that this ordinance authorizes golf carts over that bridge.
The document does not provide a golf cart street map or identify designated state-highway crossings. We did not verify counterpart town or county bridge actions, and make no claim that the ATV crossing has opened. Our Wisconsin golf cart law guide explains the wider local-ordinance framework.
What equipment and driver rules apply?
The new golf cart section expressly requires:
- A driver at least 16 years old with a valid driver's license.
- Headlights and taillights for operation after dark.
- At least one working rear-view mirror that gives a clear view of approaching traffic.
- A slow-moving-vehicle emblem on the rear, visible to approaching traffic.
- No more occupants than the manufacturer's designed capacity.
- Village registration and the two visible permits or stickers.
The incorporated ATV/UTV restrictions also address lights and operational brake lights, single-file travel, a 1–5 a.m. route closure, liability insurance and proof of coverage, sidewalk restrictions, and prohibited conduct. The golf cart section separately prohibits open intoxicants. Its express 16-and-licensed requirement applies even though the ATV restrictions contain an exception for some supervised riders under 16.
The ordinance specifies no insurance coverage amount in these provisions. Our golf cart insurance guide explains policy categories without supplying a Cassville-specific minimum.
Is this the same as Wisconsin LSV registration?
The $25 village permit covers the local golf cart program. Wisconsin DOT's LSV guidance describes a separate process for vehicles with federal safety certification, a top attainable speed above 20 mph and no more than 25 mph, and DMV title and registration. It explicitly distinguishes golf carts from LSVs.
A village sticker does not establish federal vehicle certification. The golf cart and LSV guide explains how to identify the vehicle category before applying road rules.
Reporting method: We compared all four pages of the signed ordinance, the clerk's October 15 notice and Wisconsin DOT guidance on October 19. The original finding is a comparison of the ordinance's route and operating-restriction cross-references. We did not survey streets, inspect vehicles or verify permit availability before the effective date.
