Buy for the exact footwell and pedals before choosing a pattern or color. A mat that moves, curls or crowds a pedal is unsuitable even if its listing promises thick material or custom fit. There is no documented wet-traction comparison behind a brand ranking in this guide.

Identify the floor you actually have

Record brand, full model, model year, gas/electric variant, seat direction and any replacement body or floor. Send the supplier a floor/pedal photograph and request the exact SKU and installation sheet. For ICON, distinguish i40 from i40F/i40FL. For Evolution, distinguish D5 trims from Classic and Forester.

Do not infer floor compatibility from a shared brand, lift kit, or similar roof. A front mat also does not establish fit on an aftermarket rear-seat footplate. Measure that assembly separately. Treat claims that UMAX equals Drive2, every Precedent equals Onward, or all RXV years share a floor as dependencies for the exact supplier rather than blanket purchasing rules.

Before accepting the fit, use the cart/manual's stationary inspection conditions to check the full permitted pedal travel and return, edge seating, drainage and specified retention. Do not test a suspect fit by driving. Reject a mat that interferes; trimming, stacking or improvised adhesive can change the intended installation.

One verified material example

WeatherTech's EZGO TXT page, checked October 10, 2026, describes TPE, recyclable latex/PVC-free construction, drainage channels and a cleat cleaner. Its vehicle selector and representative-image caveat matter: a pictured TXT mat does not establish another floor's fit.

These are maker descriptions, not our grip or lifespan measurements. The page states no measured 8mm thickness. Confirm the selected variant's availability and delivered price. A defect warranty does not establish a fixed service life.

Its cleaning instructions specify mild detergent, warm water and a soft-bristle brush after removal, excluding harsh chemicals and silicone-based cleaners. Use the purchased product's instructions; another formulation may have different limits.

What a real overlay installation tells us

In a May 11, 2024 Reddit discussion, deetman68 reports installing an Xtreme Mats front mat over the factory mat in a Club Car Precedent and describes easy installation. Their belief that water would not enter without a pressure washer aimed at the seam is an opinion, not a leak test. Model year, exact SKU and long-term conditions are absent.

The Xtreme Mats clip instruction sheet for Yamaha/ICON/Advanced EV1 explicitly describes clipping the overlay to OEM flooring under the dash with four supplied clips. That is a concrete reason to obtain the actual instruction sheet: neither “remove all factory flooring” nor “no retention needed” works as a universal instruction. This sheet does not identify every compatible year/SKU.

Our decision from those two sources is to verify both the underlying flooring and retention method, then inspect beneath the removable mat during normal care. Neither source proves comparative slip resistance or universal moisture exclusion.

Acid contamination changes the job

A footwell mat is not a verified spill tray. With suspected battery electrolyte, keep people clear of the contamination and have the leak and affected area assessed before reinstalling a mat. Do not hose contaminated material into a drain or treat it as ordinary mud.

Use the installed battery's sheet and appropriate trained cleanup; this guide does not prescribe an acid-neutralization recipe. Compare offers without unsupported scores

Ask for material identification, dimensions, exact fit list, retention instructions, cleaning limits and returns for an incorrect fit. If a seller invokes ASTM testing, request the standard number, tested SKU, report, laboratory and conditions. “Tested to” does not by itself establish independent certification or superiority over another mat.

Compare thickness and patterns alongside measured clearance and product-specific test results. A garage parking mat serves a different location and needs its own chemical-containment specification.
