Start with the job and the actual configuration. Club Car markets Tempo for golf fleets and Onward for personal use. A used Precedent belongs in the comparison when its condition, charging system and price meet your needs. The badge alone does not establish the best value or lowest ownership cost.

Current manufacturer offerings
The Tempo fleet page, checked October 10, 2026, offers flooded lead-acid or lithium powertrains. It labels StopSmart automatic parking optional, available on two-passenger and 2+2 Tempo lithium vehicles. Do not assume an older or lead-acid Tempo has it.
Club Car's Onward 2 Passenger page displays an entry price of $10,099 on the same date. That is a manufacturer listing, not a delivered quote or the price of every lithium/seating variant. Ask for the exact vehicle, freight, setup, accessories and tax separately.
The Certified Pre-Owned program is a separate buying channel. Ask for the actual vehicle's reconditioning list and written warranty, including battery/charger coverage and transfer rules. Do not treat every dealer-used cart as factory CPO or assume every component has the same coverage.
Our dated used-listing comparison
We recalculated a model-specific comparison from GolfCartSearch's collected GolfCartResource dealer asking-price snapshot of August 4, 2026. We selected Used Club Car records with an advertised year of 2019–2022, price of $1,000–$30,000, and model text containing Precedent, Tempo or Onward. Duplicate listing URLs were collapsed, keeping the last record. The median is the upper-middle observation in sorted prices.

The common advertised-year window makes this more useful than comparing all old Precedents against all newer Onwards. It still does not match battery chemistry, seating, refurbishment, dealer, condition or exact year distribution. Seller model/year labels were not independently authenticated.
Geography is especially uneven: 204 of the 358 Tempo listings were in Minnesota, versus five Precedents and one Onward. Several listings can also come from one dealer. These are advertised prices from a selected directory, not completed sales, a national valuation, proof of depreciation or evidence that Precedent is the best buy. Use the figures to frame local comparisons, then inspect individual carts.
Battery and charging system before appearance
For a used cart, identify the installed battery pack and charging system from labels and records. Obtain the matching manufacturer charging instructions. Confirm the charger supplied with the cart, any OBC changes and any lithium conversion; a connector that fits does not establish charging compatibility.
Request a battery-condition assessment appropriate to the chemistry. Static pack voltage alone does not establish remaining capacity. Ask for maintenance history, replacement dates, diagnostic faults and an inspection of steering, brakes, suspension and wiring. See our used-cart inspection guide and MCOR/APPS guide.
Fleet history is an inspection question, not automatic proof of heavy wear or superior maintenance. Ask what was actually serviced and replaced. A cosmetic refurbishment cannot stand in for battery or mechanical records.
Parts and road use need their own checks
Do not buy a rear seat, windshield, controller or charger on a generic “Precedent/Tempo/Onward” label. Get the exact part's application chart, installation requirements and exclusions for the vehicle serial and installed equipment. Added seating also needs host-cart load and passenger approval; bolt-hole overlap alone does not establish it.
Windshield: confirm the listed year and actual mounts
The RIZINKART fold-down windshield listing specifies Precedent 2004–2024, Tempo 2017+ and Onward 2017+. Compare the installed roof supports, dimensions and mounting hardware with the supplier before ordering, particularly on a refurbished cart. The EPOWREY 48V 15A three-pin round charger is listed for lead-acid Club Car systems with a functioning OBC or compatible non-OBC arrangement. Confirm the complete wiring and charging/control requirements with the supplier. It is not a lithium charger, a universal ERIC replacement or a fix for a faulty OBC. For road use, establish the actual vehicle class, documents and authorized route. An Onward name or an added lighting kit does not by itself establish LSV compliance or local permission. Check state rules before selecting a road-use configuration.
Compare local dealer inventory with an itemized delivered quote and independent inspection. A sound cart with documented support can be preferable to a cheaper example whose battery, conversion or service history is unresolved.
