Yamaha G29 Golf Cart: Years, Specs, Value & Pictures

Yamaha G29 is commonly used in parts listings for the Drive generation. Yamaha's dated model bulletin lists Drive fleet models from 2007 through 2016 and Drive2 fleet models beginning in 2017. Confirm the full Primary ID (PID), powertrain and equipment on the cart before comparing prices or ordering parts.

Check the accelerator recall before a test drive

CPSC recall 25-321, dated June 5, 2025, includes specified serial ranges of 2016 Drive and 2017–2024 Drive2 vehicles, alongside other Yamaha models. The remedy is replacement of the accelerator pedal spring assembly. CPSC directs owners of affected vehicles to stop using them even if a prior recall repair was performed and obtain the expanded remedy from an authorized Yamaha dealer.

Match the entire serial number to the notice and obtain repair documentation before driving an affected cart. Not every G29 is included. If the plate is missing or the repair status cannot be established, resolve identification and recall status with the dealer before the test drive.

Identify Drive versus Drive2

Use Yamaha bulletin GC2018-005, October 22, 2018, retained by a Yamaha dealer. It contains model-year starting PID tables and location diagrams. This is a historical identification source, not a current lineup brochure.

PTV, EFI, AC-electric and Concierge entries have their own rows. A broad prefix alone is insufficient. JC1, for example, appears in both DC- and AC-electric PTV entries. Compare the complete number to the appropriate model's starting numbers, then confirm the installed motor/controller and any modifications. Use the bulletin's relevant location diagram rather than assuming every Yamaha plate is in the same place.

A real identification problem

On January 25, 2024, Reddit owner Ubuiqity described a cart bought new in 2013, with a YDREX4 PTV label, June 2013 construction date, JC1-500157 identifier and a Hitachi DC motor. An internet lookup had described it as a 2014 AC model; replies also disagreed about the year.

The Yamaha bulletin independently places the 2014 DC-electric PTV starting PID at JC1-0500101. Its 2015 AC PTV row starts at JC1-0601001. That comparison supports questioning the AC label in the owner's lookup. It does not independently authenticate the owner's plate, establish whether a zero was omitted when typing it or document a completed lithium installation. Ask for a clear plate photograph and reconcile the complete number with Yamaha; do not order an AC-specific part from a conflicting search result.

Pictures are clues, not identification

The existing images below are representative references. They are not photographs of the owner's cart above or an inspected listing. A replacement body, badge or roof can obscure the original configuration.

Use the exact manual for dimensions and weight

One Yamaha YDRA manual, LIT-19626-22-13, lists these figures:

The manual's seating specification allows four occupants maximum. These are that manual's configuration, not universal dimensions or curb weight for every two-seat G29. Steering height is not roof height. Do not use the dry figure as an electric cart's loaded transport weight. A dated asking-price sample for Drive carts

We recalculated the repository's August 4, 2026 GolfCartResource dealer-listing snapshot for used Yamaha entries labeled Drive, model years 2007–2016, with asking prices from $1,000 to $30,000. There were 37 matching records; removing repeated listing URLs left 35 distinct listings. The observed years were 2008–2016. Ten states were represented, with one listing missing location data.

The median is the middle observation in the sorted 35-price sample. The underlying file is products/buyers-toolkit/scripts/data/gcr-listings.json, collected from GolfCartResource listings. We excluded other Yamaha model labels and unspecified models rather than assuming every cart of the right year was a Drive. The raw file and these filters make the calculation reproducible.

This is a small historical asking-price sample, not private-sale transactions or an appraisal. We did not verify each cart's PID, battery age, service history or accessories, and the snapshot does not establish today's availability. Different regions, powertrains and seating configurations are mixed. Use it to frame questions, then compare currently available carts with documented condition and an itemized out-the-door quote.

For example, an illustrative $4,500 purchase plus $1,200 of battery/charger work and $300 of tire or brake work totals $6,000 before tax and other fees. Those assumptions explain how a cheap listing can become expensive; they are not observed G29 repair prices.

What to inspect before buying

After identification and recall clearance:

1. Ask for service records, battery dates and receipts for modifications.
2. On an electric cart, identify the battery chemistry, complete pack, motor/controller and charger label. A matching plug does not prove a compatible charging profile or healthy batteries; request a capacity/load assessment appropriate to the pack.
3. On a gas cart, have the engine and fuel system checked for leaks, starting faults and deferred belt or maintenance work. Arrange a permitted test drive only after the safety inspection.
4. Check the frame, battery tray, seat and roof supports, steering, brakes and tire condition. Obtain written repair estimates for faults.
5. Confirm a nearby shop will service that generation and modified equipment. Compare its complete cost with a specific Drive2 alternative rather than assuming the newer name guarantees better ride or resale.

Parts and road-use decisions

Order windshields, mats, seats and lift kits by the actual generation, model year and mounting arrangement. Photograph roof struts, battery layout and existing hardware for the supplier. Confirm the exact part number and installation instructions in writing. A rear seat does not itself raise the vehicle's approved passenger or load capacity, and no universal four-inch lift ceiling establishes safe tires or handling. For charging, match the complete pack's voltage and chemistry, receptacle wiring and required charging algorithm. Use the charger plug guide; do not buy a charger solely because its description includes “G29.”

Windshield for a confirmed 2007–2016 Drive/G29

Charger for a compatible 48V electric Drive

The FORM 48V 15A Yamaha Drive-plug charger is an option to compare after identifying the electric pack and charging receptacle. The current listing includes lead-acid, AGM and LiFePO4/lithium batteries; that does not approve every conversion. Obtain confirmation of the exact supplied model, plug wiring, battery-approved profile and 15A charging current. It is not a charger for a gas cart's starting battery or an older Yamaha with a different connector.

Road-use approval

For public roads, identify whether the jurisdiction permits this cart on the intended route or requires an approved LSV/title conversion. Federal Standard 500 specifies LSV equipment and performance requirements; installing lights and changing speed does not demonstrate that the vehicle meets them or that it may be registered locally.
